Has Sony redefined mobile photography?

Has Sony redefined mobile photography? | Mobile Photography | Scoop.it

"Will the QX10 and QX100 prove to be game changers or gimmicks? Whether you're a camera snob or a smartphone photography enthusiast —  or a little of both — Sony's new QX100 and QX10 are intriguing.

The pair of "digital cameras" are unlike anything we've seen in the DPReview offices before, proving tricky even for us to categorize and anticipate how our readers may react. We've seen manufacturers blend smartphone and compact camera before, with Samsung's Galaxy S4 Zoom probably hitting closest to the target thus far. Smartphone manufactures continue to make valiant efforts to make their products more camera-like as well: Nokia's offering a grip accessory that makes it hard to remember the Lumia 1020 is a phone and Oppo is teasing sensor-equipped plug-in optics with zoom capability. Sony's thinking is truly original: the QX100 and QX10 are transformative accessories designed to become part of your smartphone. Instead of forcing you to choose between camera or smartphone: Sony's encouraging you to have both, with an innovative cross-platform approach."

Kitty Fisher's insight:

Sony have been busy this week? Now with this pair the QX100 and QX10, the new motto may become, lens in one hand and smart phone in the other?

Is this the biggest thing to happen to mobile photography/video in years? Sony DSC-QX10 and DSC-QX100 lens-cameras! | via sonyalpharumors | Mobile Photography | Scoop.it

(SR5) Hot! First images of the new DSC-QX10 and DSC-QX100 lens-cameras! | sonyalpharumors. Is this the biggest thing to happen to iPhoneography and iPhone Video in a long time?

SonyAlphaRumours.com had this story in early August but it was, as such, a rumour – but if the latest updates are genuine it appears Sony are about to launch 2 discreet mobile lenses which will attach to smartphones magnetically, be controlled by a dedicated App on the mobile device and record internally in the lens to microSD. The communication with the mobile is either WiFi or Bluetooth and the spec on the lenses is pretty damn impressive."

Kitty Fisher's insight:

Sony has gone far and behind with this attachable lens that would snap on to the back of your mobile phone. As technology everyday exceeds expectation, this one happens to be the real deal.

Beyond Megapixels: Mobile cameras rethink the numbers game

Beyond Megapixels: Mobile cameras rethink the numbers game | Mobile Photography | Scoop.it
Once upon a time, mobile megapixels were the key. In fact, not so many years ago, many questioned whether there was any value whatsoever in having a camera built into your phone. Convergence for its own sake is undeniably a problem in today’s crossover-soaked market, but it’s now hard to argue that photography and the modern smartphone aren’t a compelling match.
Kitty Fisher's insight:

When it comes to your camera phone, you wouldn't think twice about the pixels...would you? Think again.

Security Researcher Discovers Bug That Would Let Hackers Delete Any Photo Off Facebook | TechCrunch

Security Researcher Discovers Bug That Would Let Hackers Delete Any Photo Off Facebook | TechCrunch | Mobile Photography | Scoop.it

"In a nice example of how Facebook's bounty program should work (in contrast with that mess a few weeks ago), a security researcher has unearthed a bug that would let anyone delete just about any photo from Facebook — whether the photo was yours, mine, or Zuckerberg’s — and was paid a solid chunk of cash for the discovery.

According to the terms of Facebook’s white hat program, those who find bugs and follow Facebook’s rules in reporting them are paid a bounty. The minimum bounty for any bug is set at $500, with Facebook paying more based on the bug’s severity. Most payouts I’ve heard of tend to be around $1,500. In his write up of this bug, security researcher Arul Kumar says he was paid $12,500 — roughly 25x the base bounty."

Kitty Fisher's insight:

Since basically everyone has a facebook and this happens to involve the photos you post under your name. Reading about this, will help you to be aware and also to protect your own photos.
