Five tips for creating beautiful Instagram photos

Five tips for creating beautiful Instagram photos | Mobile Photography | Scoop.it

We all have those friends who have beautiful photos and an astounding number of Instagram followers.

'How do they do it?' is the question that springs to mind. Here are five tips for producing your own stunning Instagram photos - granted, you'll never see such a refreshing improvement to your feed.

Use natural light as much as possible.

Remember how shaky and grainy your photos get when you use your phone camera to take food shots in a dimly lit restaurant? Beautiful, clear and sharp photos are easily achieved when natural light is present. Windows are a great source of light that is not too harsh. When photographing objects or food, try positioning them near a window (e.g. in a restaurant, ask for a table beside the window). If you're photographing a landscape like cherry blossom trees, don't position the sun directly in your photo.

Process your photography before uploading it to Instagram.

Ironically, the majority of good photos on Instagram are processed with a third party application (or even a few) before being uploaded. Chances are the shot of a plate of pancakes looking inhumanely amazing on your Instagram feed has previously been put through three photography apps, all with different filters and functions. Personally, as a professional photographer taking iPhone shots, I always run my photos through either Snapseed ($4.99 in the app store or free on Android phones) or Camera+ first before adding filters in VSCOcam or Afterglow. Instagram filters may be retro and convenient, but they simply lack the amount of customization that other apps offer in terms of improving your photo. Some really excellent apps that are widely used both by amateurs and professionals alike include:

- VSCOcam (free) offers in-app purchases for filters of your choice. I recommend the M and F series.

- Afterglow ($0.99) which was developed by photographer Simon Filip has stunning vintage filters, light leaks, and dust overlays.

Kitty Fisher's insight:

Being an Instagram user, you want to sometimes bring out across your creative talent. Or in this case taking a simple vase of flowers and turn them into a beautiful photograph. Natural lighting honestly, makes everything better, if you didn't know that. It will greatly improve your image skills.

"I’m going to share with you a magical little machine that can turn your Instagram photos into a miniature slideshow.  Have you heard of the ProjecteoThe tiny Instagram projector? In one easy step, you can make your very own, and Projecteo will do the rest!  All you need to do is sign in with your Instragram account and pick nine of your favorite images.  They will then develop them on to a single frame of 35mm slide film which is inserted into a small black wheel.  Before you know it, your Projecteo and wheel of images will arrive together in the mail."

Kitty Fisher's insight:

Not only is this a cool little invention, but bringing back how our grandparents use to do slideshow vacation screenings, for the whole family. Having a bit of that nostalgic coming back, is pretty sweet. Also this site has a code for free shipping if you are interested, but to preserve some of those lasting memories, I will definitely be checking this out some more.

5 tips for conquering Instagram

5 tips for conquering Instagram | Mobile Photography | Scoop.it

Start Basic: Use your iPhone native camera to shoot -- that way you can adjust your images using Instagram or other apps and still save your original. If you're using another device, just make sure you're getting a quality image.

Get Fuzzy: If your subject is in front of a distracting or not-ideal backdrop, you can isolate it by creating "shallow depth of field" using the Tilt Shift tool. You can make a circular selection -- a face, for example -- or a linear one, great for creating fake miniatures.

Last words: Pre-set filters, tilt shift, light leaks, etc ... don't necessarily make good photos. Tey to use the time you spend editing photos to learn how you might take even better ones next time. And most importantly, get out and have fun!

Kitty Fisher's insight:

How do you conquer Instagram? Funny question right? Yeah that's what I thought until this article brought up some direct points. Especially when it comes to cropping the photos, since well only the center part of your photo will be cropped, unless you move to the left or right. But what is important is that you allow your creative spark shine through.

Copyrights, Inspirational Photographs and the Projecteo...

Copyrights, Inspirational Photographs and the Projecteo... | Mobile Photography | Scoop.it

Copyrights have been brought up over the pass few days, one maybe thanks to Facebook and how they keep changing privcay rules and, well rules in general. But to add this bit of advice again, if you are a photographer and you base your company on a social media outlet suh as Facebook. Please think again or have a strong watermark, because knowing that your work could be used in advertising that you will have no part of...can be damaging to your career.

Coming across inspirational images can be a common thing on any search engine. But between Northern Ireland, a surf capturing the perfect moment or a breath-taking photograph taken from a Hot Air Balloom in China...it's hard not to feel as if, you could take a photo just like that. Well these ideas let our imaginations run wild and that box we tend to stay in, gives us the jump to think outside of it. Take those colorful inspirations and come up with your very own.

Now Instagram has been talked about for the last year. But this little projector called 'Projecteo,' has to be an adorable invention. Well we put all our images on Instagram, you can now have them create small slides for your tiny projector. Who would have thought! For a fee and an article, where a lady tested it out and couldn't stop talking about it. I couldn't stop thinking that this already exists but the newer generation have no knowledge of the classic, projector and sildes. Now they can have fun with it and learn a little about history while in the process.

5 of the Easiest Ways to Improve the Quality of Your Instagram Photos (how to)

5 of the Easiest Ways to Improve the Quality of Your Instagram Photos (how to) | Mobile Photography | Scoop.it
Instagram’s built-in image processing effects have already improved user’s photos vastly. With a simple touch of preset filter, a photograph that was flat and poorly exposed can quickly become a vibrant and high contrast image. Portraits can be made more striking with the use of select focus. Photographs can easily be turned to black and white.  And the square format, which was really only found in fine art photography taken by medium-format cameras like the Hasselblad and Mamiya, has been given a second life with the emergence of Instagram. The square has a vintage feel to it, and allows lots of fun options for composition. When combined with the preset filters Instagram provides, the images can look like old vintage Polaroids from the 70’s.
Kitty Fisher's insight:

Improving our Instagram photos can be an easy trick. Using a filter to enhance the detailed quality or adding a vibrancy to the color can make the subject pop!
