Fujifilm X10 Review

Fujifilm X10 Review | Photography Gear News | Scoop.it

Our in-depth review of the Fujifilm X10. It's been a long time coming, but we recently got our hands on a modified X10, which incorporates the sensor fix for the much-publicised 'white orbs' blooming issue. Since then, we've been working hard to incorporate our experiences with, and samples from the modified camera into this unavoidably-delayed review. Click here to read our full report on Fujifilm's flagship compact.

Fujifilm explains X10 and X-S1 white orb causes and planned responses

Fujifilm explains X10 and X-S1 white orb causes and planned responses | Photography Gear News | Scoop.it

"Fujifilm has released a statement explaining the causes of the 'white disc' blooming issue that affects certain images shot with the X10 high-end compact. The statement says the company is developing a modified sensor in response to the problem, that can also affect the X-S1 premium superzoom. It encourages X10 and X-S1 owners experiencing 'the white disc phenomenon' to contact their local Fujifilm service center."

Fujifilm announces X10 high-end enthusiast compact: Digital Photography Review

Fujifilm announces X10 high-end enthusiast compact: Digital Photography Review | Photography Gear News | Scoop.it

Fujifilm has unveiled the X10 - an enthusiast compact with a F2.0-2.8, 28-112mm-equivalent lens. It's built around a 2/3" (6.6 x 8.8mm) CMOS sensor that uses Fujifilm's EXR pixel arrangement. The 12MP sensor can produce either 12MP images in high resolution mode, under-expose half its pixels to provide 6MP images with greater dynamic range, or combine neighboring pixels for a 6MP high sensitivity mode. The X10 borrows extensively from the styling of the X100 (though its zooming viewfinder means you lose the X100's hybrid viewfinder), to give a camera that sits conceptually between the Olympus XZ-1 and the Canon Powershot G12.

Fujifilm provides modified-sensor X10 to address white-orb issue

Fujifilm provides modified-sensor X10 to address white-orb issue | Photography Gear News | Scoop.it

"We've just received an updated Fujifilm X10 feature the revised, orb-resistant sensor, announced in March. We've rushed it straight into our studio to see how it performed, alongside the existing X10 we had been putting through our review process. We'll be doing more in-depth testing, to check whether the changes Fujifilm have made have had any other impact on image quality but, given the interest surrounding the issue, we thought we'd show our preliminary results."

Fujifilm X10 'Orbs' Investigated. Does the Firmware Fix Work?

Fujifilm X10 'Orbs' Investigated. Does the Firmware Fix Work? | Photography Gear News | Scoop.it

"It didn't take long once samples of the Fujifilm X10 were out in the wild for reports to start surfacing of a strange and unwelcome phenomenon in images taken in certain conditions. Colloquially known as 'white orbs' or 'white discs' the problem describes the peculiar circular, hard-edged appearance of clipped specular highlights in images taken on the X10. The effect is unpredictable, but virtually unavoidable in some situations (low light city scapes for example) and impossible to ignore once you notice it."

Fujifilm X10 hands-on (video)

Fujifilm X10 hands-on (video) | Photography Gear News | Scoop.it

We really like Fujifilm's X100 -- it's a solidly-built camera, with an APS-C sensor, f/2 lens, and a rather unique hybrid optical / electronic viewfinder. But the X100 carries a $1,400 sticker price, and that 23mm lens -- as sharp as it may be -- is permanently fixed to the mount. That's why we were rather exited when Fuji announced its X10 earlier this week. Would this be a much more capable (and affordable) replacement for the X100? Turns out it's not -- well, not exactly -- though this latest model is certainly a better fit for the consumer market. We had a chance to go hands-on with an early prototype on display at the company's IFA booth, and while some features (notably the pop-up flash) weren't yet functional, we're told it's a rather accurate representation of what we'll see when the X10 hits stores in late October, priced within the €499-599 range (about $715-860).
