Projecteo | The tiny Instagram projector - livelaughrowe.com | Mobile Photography | Scoop.it

"I’m going to share with you a magical little machine that can turn your Instagram photos into a miniature slideshow.  Have you heard of the ProjecteoThe tiny Instagram projector? In one easy step, you can make your very own, and Projecteo will do the rest!  All you need to do is sign in with your Instragram account and pick nine of your favorite images.  They will then develop them on to a single frame of 35mm slide film which is inserted into a small black wheel.  Before you know it, your Projecteo and wheel of images will arrive together in the mail."

Kitty Fisher's insight:

Not only is this a cool little invention, but bringing back how our grandparents use to do slideshow vacation screenings, for the whole family. Having a bit of that nostalgic coming back, is pretty sweet. Also this site has a code for free shipping if you are interested, but to preserve some of those lasting memories, I will definitely be checking this out some more.

iOS 7: Everything You Need to Know | Digital Trends

iOS 7: Everything You Need to Know | Digital Trends | Mobile Photography | Scoop.it

"Apple has revealed the next version of its mobile operating system, named iOS 7, during the keynote presentation at its Worldwide Developer. Conference. Now, just as the iPhone 5S and iPhone 5C were revealed, we’ve learned it’ll be released as a free download on September 18.

Here's everything you need to know about it. According to Jony Ive, Apple, “considered the tiniest details,” when designing iOS 7. As we expected, there’s no wood, leather, or other skeumorphic design elements – it’s a stark, flat, minimalist affair with plenty of white space, black text and in Ive’s own words, “precision and a sense of purpose. As with previous years, Apple talked about ten key features of iOS 7, and the changes they would bring. These ten were, Control Center, Multitasking, Safari, AirDrop, Camera, Photos, Siri, iOS In the Car, App Store, Music, and iTunes Radio"

Kitty Fisher's insight:

After hearing about Apple releasing two new iPhones. Learning about iOS 7 and how this will be the biggest change since the iPhone came to be. A boggled mind may seem a bit true to the phrase but this is getting us closer to a future that has less glitches, more accurate proficiency and beautiful animations.

250 Million Reasons You Should Register Your Photo Copyrights

250 Million Reasons You Should Register Your Photo Copyrights | Mobile Photography | Scoop.it

A Photo Editor recently updated us on the Richard Reinsdorf v. Skechers case, which illustrates the complexity of copyright violation cases and re-emphasizes the necessity of copyright registration.

The good news is that the United States District Court in the Central District of California ruled in favor of a copyright violation despite Skechers position that they were a co-author of the images because they had taken delivery of his RAW files and made “slight modifications in the models’ skin tone…” among other changes.

In any copyright infringement suit, damages can be awarded as either “actual” or “statutory.” Actual damages for copyright infringement can be notoriously difficult to calculate.

Kitty Fisher's insight:

Copyright laws have had loop holes and generally at times it's hard to now what is right and what can be done. Whether a company is using your photos illegally, and why we need to copyright our images.

Ethereal Double Exposures Merge Digital Glitches with Analog Street Photography

Ethereal Double Exposures Merge Digital Glitches with Analog Street Photography | Mobile Photography | Scoop.it

"San Francisco-based photographer and self-proclaimed super nerd Doctor Popular -- the same one that made this film canister valentines day card back in February - started off his photographic career with an iPhone. Then shifted more of his focus to film.

His most recent endeavor, Glitch Double Exposures, mixes the two worlds of digital and analog by combining street photos with photos of purposely glitched images into ethereal double exposures."

Kitty Fisher's insight:

Mixing two worlds one belonging in the digital and the other of traditional analog. Taking that into street photography, you come out with an almost graffiti feel for the everyday busy streets of the cities we live in.

Interesting Photo of the Day: Yangshuo, China from a Hot Air Balloon

Interesting Photo of the Day: Yangshuo, China from a Hot Air Balloon | Mobile Photography | Scoop.it
Photos taken from a hot air balloon are not as common as aerial photos taken from the window seat of an airplane or helicopter, but they’re just as majestic, if not more so. An airplane usually cruises above the clouds, and while that scene is beautiful in itself, you can’t fully appreciate nature’s many spectacles from so high up with a thick blanket of clouds in between
Kitty Fisher's insight:

Once you've photographed from a airplane or a helicopter, nothing can quite compare. Until you've taken a shot like this from a hot air balloon, in Yangshuo, China.

NASA opened its own Instagram account on September 6th, and since then has uploaded nine photos both old and new for your following pleasure. Even though there are only nine, we already have the classic Apollo 11 photo of the Earth rise over the moon.

Although there's no shortage of accounts on Instagram where you can see some great space photography courtesy of NASA, the space agency just upped the ante. In addition to offering another great place to look up space photography and keep up with NASA’s goings on, the account is also great for those who like their photos attached to an educational opportunity. Each photo comes complete with a detailed caption, explaining the phenomenon pictured or offering some interesting behind the scenes detail.

Kitty Fisher's insight:

For all the space and science kids out there, we finally have a view of what is happening outside of our planet.

Five tips for getting a perfect exposure

Five tips for getting a perfect exposure | Mobile Photography | Scoop.it

"Take better photos instantly with our guide through the finer aspects of exposure.

There will be times when your digital camera won't be able to accurately capture the photo you want to take because of a tricky lighting situation. This might be something like a strong contrast between light and shadow areas within the scene.

This is where bracketing comes in handy."

Kitty Fisher's insight:

Exposure can be a manual composition of a simple automatic reading from a point and shoot. But to understand the compensation of this function which will tell you if it's underexposed or overexposed.

Gadgets from Sony could skyrocket mobile photography

Gadgets from Sony could skyrocket mobile photography | Mobile Photography | Scoop.it

"Sony has unveiled its newest gadgets in the form of detachable smartphone lenses, which have the potential for changing the way that people take pictures using their mobile devices.

The Sony QX-10 and QX-100 gadgets function quite simply by connecting with the smartphone to become the viewfinder. These two stand alone lenses use either NFC technology or Wi-Fi in order to be able to communicate with the smartphone. This is a considerable effort by the manufacturer to take smartphone photography in an entirely new direction.

These gadgets now represent an entirely new form of mobile consumer product.

Both of the two new gadgets are compatible with both Android and Apple smartphones. They can either be clipped directly onto the devices, or they can be operated independently, with the device screen acting as the viewfinder for the separate QX-100 or QX-10 lens."

Kitty Fisher's insight:

Using your camera phone can be a messy business, getting a clear, sharp image can be hard to come by, that is if you don't want to stand there completely still for a few seconds. But having an adaptable lens to act as the camera itself, in my opinion Instagram may become even more popular. And people may have more of a chance to become photographers on the go because of this new gadget.

Wedding Photography: Shooting The Rings

Wedding Photography: Shooting The Rings | Mobile Photography | Scoop.it

"One such shot is the ring shot. It is what’s known as a detail shot, and while this may not be the most important shot of the wedding, it is one of the shots that helps sets the tone of an album, and can allow for a lot of creativity if you have the time.

Some more cliche than others. The one that always comes to mind is a shot of the rings resting on the invitation. My preference is to find something personal that connects the rings to the bride and groom, or else I’ll pull something from the theme of the day.  It may take some digging with your clients to find that personal connection- maybe a story about how they met, or something they share together, but once you find it, it can make shooting the ring shot a lot more fun. If I can’t find a personal connection, I’ll use flowers, the bouquet, or a even a champagne cork.  Be creative. There are a lot of ways to photograph wedding rings that will make them stand out.
A Canon EF 100mm f/2.8L IS macro lens, but any lens that will let you get fairly close will work, depending on your composition. Ideally, I would use off-camera flash every time, but weddings tend to me fast moving events, and there isn’t always time to do it the way you’d prefer."
Kitty Fisher's insight:

Photographing Weddings can test your ability with natural lighting, moving figures and clashes of colors. But say shooting the rings in an individual format, whether it be sea shells or bullets. This caught my eye for an idea, for the next time a friend of mine asks me to shoot their wedding. Between a macro lens and using an off-flash or if the event is fast paced, reflectors can become a big help.

Apple Unveils New iPhone Camera with a Larger Sensor and Slow-Motion Video

Apple Unveils New iPhone Camera with a Larger Sensor and Slow-Motion Video | Mobile Photography | Scoop.it

Today is a big day for tech sites and Apple fanboys alike because it's the day that the Cupertino-based company announces their newest iPhones - the more affordable iPhone 5C and the more capable iPhone 5S - and as you might expect given the smartphone camera culture, the more expensive of the two came with some significant camera improvements.

The iPhone 5 (and 5C), the sensor boasts a 15% larger active sensor area, and peers out at the world through an all-new Apple-designed five-element f/2.2 lens — that translates into a reported 33% increase in light sensitivity.

iPhone 5C and 5S has a special "True Tone" flash that uses a white and an amber LED to yield the perfect intensity and color temperature.

Finally, the camera’s video capabilities have also been improved. You can now shoot slow-motion 720p video at 120fps, and go back in-phone to select where you want your video slow-mo and where you’d prefer regular speed.

Kitty Fisher's insight:

Today is the day Apple has released the iPhone 5C and the iPhone 5S. While one is more affordable and the other has a more expensive taste, but it also comes with some fancy features. And now we have read about the improvements but we will have to wait until the reviews come in. Knowing that one is more affordable has it's highlights, but my question is which one will late longer?

Hands on: Nokia Lumia 1020

Hands on: Nokia Lumia 1020 | Mobile Photography | Scoop.it

It's the mother of all camera phones, but otherwise Nokia's Lumia 1020 isn't a significant step up from its Lumia 92x Windows Phone 8 predecessors. Nokia has always tended to make camera phones which happen to be smart, rather than smartphones which happen to take photos. Never was this more obvious than at the Nokia N8 launch back in 2010 when then Nokia Australia managing director Emile Baak talked about nothing but the impressive 12-megapixel camera, after which journos roasted him over the fact that the phone still ran Symbian.

Nokia's Lumia 1020 offers a mouth-watering number of pixels for a smartphone, but these days most gadget lovers have already aligned themselves with iOS, Android or Windows Phone. Only serious photographers would contemplate switching smartphone ecosystems just for the quality of the camera. If you're that serious about photography then you probably prefer to lug around a dedicated SLR. Or you might be crying out for the best of both worlds, in which case this is probably the smartphone you've been dreaming of.

Kitty Fisher's insight:

Before you go out and buy, one of the newest critically acclaimed camera phones, having a bit of a second opinion can help make your decision. It may be one of the best camera phones out there but does it hold up to it's competitors such as an Android or a Windows Phone?

DSLR Photo Tip: What The Heck Is Back Button Focus?

DSLR Photo Tip: What The Heck Is Back Button Focus? | Mobile Photography | Scoop.it
Today’s DSLR photo tip continues with our series of tips covering functions on your camera that you are most likely not using. Let’s talk about back button focusing.

Have you ever tried to photograph a scene in low light conditions? Often the lens can’t find the focal point and will keep moving back and forth trying to find something to focus on. By the time it actually does focus on something, the shot has long since passed. Not to mention that the final focus isn’t always where you want it to be.

In other words, once you set up your camera for back button focusing, when you depress the shutter half way, it doesn’t affect the focus. You can focus with the back button and the focus point will stay the same no matter how many shots you take and even if you change the exposure settings.

Now, in that low light situation, you set the focus once and you don’t have to keep re-finding it. You can set your focus to have blurry shots if you want them, and pre-focusing on a certain spot is no problem.

Kitty Fisher's insight:

Ever wondered what a Back Button Focus was? And how it could help you to improve the way you shoot in low light? Affecting the focus can setup your whole shot, depending on how many shots you wish to take. If you focus right, you won't have to keep re-focusing on your subject if your objective is multiple images.

5 of the Easiest Ways to Improve the Quality of Your Instagram Photos (how to)

5 of the Easiest Ways to Improve the Quality of Your Instagram Photos (how to) | Mobile Photography | Scoop.it
Instagram’s built-in image processing effects have already improved user’s photos vastly. With a simple touch of preset filter, a photograph that was flat and poorly exposed can quickly become a vibrant and high contrast image. Portraits can be made more striking with the use of select focus. Photographs can easily be turned to black and white.  And the square format, which was really only found in fine art photography taken by medium-format cameras like the Hasselblad and Mamiya, has been given a second life with the emergence of Instagram. The square has a vintage feel to it, and allows lots of fun options for composition. When combined with the preset filters Instagram provides, the images can look like old vintage Polaroids from the 70’s.
Kitty Fisher's insight:

Improving our Instagram photos can be an easy trick. Using a filter to enhance the detailed quality or adding a vibrancy to the color can make the subject pop!

How To Take Ridiculously Unique Photos

How To Take Ridiculously Unique Photos | Mobile Photography | Scoop.it

How do you make your photography more meaningful, moving and unique? Motivations significantly influence the quality of photography we create. Pleasing everyone doesn't work, which can lead to an uninspiring image.

Giving yourself a photography assignment, then narrowing focus.

I can still go take a photo of the Opera House, for example. But a pretty picture, which has also been taken by millions of people, won’t do now.

If I’m going to hold myself to account and really make this day about making a difference to someone through my photography, I’ll need to dig much deeper.

Creating Art, look at the issues surrounding it today (art vs politics, need for funding and redevelopment, modern society vs art, budget cuts, people who make it all work) and attempt to take photos which tell those stories in a powerful way.

Kitty Fisher's insight:

Taking a photo from a different prespective than the traditional and taking a unique approach to it, can be challenging in itself. How do we stand from another view to capture say a historical statue, but creating art as well. Not just documenting that we've been there and seen this?

This article is a perfect explain and gives fresh, new ideas.

When Mobile Photography Beats Traditional Photography

When Mobile Photography Beats Traditional Photography | Mobile Photography | Scoop.it

Photography: Smartphones are not a device that they would use to shoot for a client or to create the kind of art that they’d expect to see in an exhibition or hang in a gallery. For other photographers though, an iPhone or Android is more than a telephone with some basic imaging capabilities; it’s their main tool, their go-to device for capturing landscapes, people and scenes… and the device they use to create the kinds of pictures that end up on gallery walls and win cash prizes in prestigious competitions.

Star Rush was inspired by her desire to see what a simple, utilitarian device would do for her photography, to discover what she could create and capture with a fixed lens, fixed aperture and limited exposure meter. The basic editing and sharing functions built into the device were also an attraction, allowing her to shoot, process and publish her imagery quickly and easily.

Star listed nine benefits that included accessibility; integrated capture, edit and share functions; simplicity; access to the work of other photographers; reduced clutter; the focus on composition; and fun. All of them, she argues, change not just the way the picture is made but the picture that the photographer produces.

Kitty Fisher's insight:

One of the biggest questions has been what will prevail in the end, mobile photography or traditional? Or can they live in harmony, one has something to offer that the other can not.
