New Fad? Taking Videos While Dangling Over Tall Buildings @ Weeder

New Fad? Taking Videos While Dangling Over Tall Buildings @ Weeder | Mobile Photography | Scoop.it

I was never a big fan of Planking, that thing where people take their photos while lying in dangerous places. I am even less of fan of this apparently new Russian fad, yet to be unnamed:

Taking videos and photos while hanging over buildings, construction sites and other high locations.

Kitty Fisher's insight:

Planking was a huge fad that has slow down to a non-existant form of photography. Now Mustang Wanted performs death defying stunts where he will hang onto the side of a building or anything with an engine and take video as well as photos of it. Is this the new trend in photography?

From Ghent, Belgium there have been a new set of guidelines, when it comes to the production and quality of digital photography. You may want to take a glance at this, since this very well could be coming over seas soon enough.

Is Private Photo Sharing the Next Big Trend in Photography? | Mosaic

Is Private Photo Sharing the Next Big Trend in Photography? | Mosaic | Mobile Photography | Scoop.it
Renowned photographer and marketer Cindy A Stephens discusses the photography trend of targeted, relevant photo sharing.

Equally powerful is selecting what social media channels you use for sharing.  “I think that a lot of big players, Twitter, Facebook, Dropbox, will develop filtering mechanisms to manage social sharing as part of your work,” Jack believes.

It appears that the answer to the question I asked up-front is probably YES: one of the photography trends to watch is a move toward more targeted, relevant photo sharing.

Kitty Fisher's insight:

Private photo sharing has moved to the front of the line. And it's beacuse as mega companies like Instagram an Twitter grow, sending direct messagees almost has a nostaglic appeal to them. Since everyone knows what every else is eating or doing all the time. It seems that private messaging would almost bring back that casual talk of "What did you do today?"

Photography for Beginners » Blog Archive » Is Wi-Fi a useful addition to cameras?

Photography for Beginners » Blog Archive » Is Wi-Fi a useful addition to cameras? | Mobile Photography | Scoop.it

However, is Wi-Fi actually a useful addition to cameras? Having to connect your camera and phone then transfer your photos across before you can upload them sometimes seems like a slow and laborious process, making it tempting to simply take the shot with your phone’s camera to save time and effort. Having your camera’s Wi-Fi capabilities turned on can also quickly drain the battery, leaving you with less time to actually shoot before you run out of charge.

Arguably, the most useful function of Wi-Fi cameras is not actually for sharing shots, but more for remote control. Once your camera and phone are connected, you can usually then use your device to control your kit as a sort of remote shutter release with Live View. This is useful for shooting from a distance, avoiding camera shake and putting yourself in the picture for self-portraits.

Kitty Fisher's insight:

Is Wi-Fi a good idea or is it simply in the way? Ironically this has come up to question. But, that the most useful tool is that it can be used as a remote control. Makes you think if Wi-Fi may just be a slow upload process.

Rumor: Sony Has 'Non-Bayer' Sensors in the Works, Might Arrive as Soon as 2015

Rumor: Sony Has 'Non-Bayer' Sensors in the Works, Might Arrive as Soon as 2015 | Mobile Photography | Scoop.it

It's been a little while since we've seen fit to report on a rumor. Most of what has passed through the rumor mill of late has either not been significant enough, or only worth linking out to. This news, however, caught our eye: it seems Sony is working on a ‘non-Bayer’ sensor that might appear in cameras as early as late 2015.

The news, as with most rumors regarding the goings on at Sony, comes from sonyalpharumors, and is rated as “almost certainly correct.”

Kitty Fisher's insight:

Rumor, can either turn out to be true or far from the truth. Sony instead has given us a glimpse of a rumor that, in the recesses of late 2015 the 'non-bayer' camera may be an existing matter. While we use the traditional RGB Bayer, this one will favor some other configurations.

Will billions of new photographers achieve artistic greatness?

The rise and popularity of smartphone apps like Instagram, Picstitch, and Twitpic have sparked the age-old debate surrounding the artist, the artwork, and the medium. If every individual who owns of iPhone can download photography apps, splash on a filter, and call if art, have we reached the pinnacle of photographic degradation. Alternatively, have we finally achieved the complete democratization of photography?

Interesting Content's insight:

Gifpop has launched a Kickstarter campaign for their new GIF printer. The printer will use a technique called lenticular printing to print your favorite animated GIFs in the real world.

The technique is actually not that new. It was originally discovered in the 20th century, and mainly used in hologram cards and toys. However, times have changed since then, and so has printing technology. If launched, Gifpop will be able to print out fully animated GIF images such as the one shown in the article.

Everyone and their dog (a real-ish stat) has a mobile phone with 8-plus megapixels in their pocket right now, ready to shoot everything from the lunch on their plate to the election of a new Pope. And, this year, with smartphone sales expected to outnumber other cell phone sales for the first time ever (I know, we were shocked that this wasn't already the case, too), the best camera really will be the one you have with you — right in your pocket.

In 2013, smartphone sales are expected to surpass other cell phone sales for the first time ever. Combined with increased internet usage, this signifies a big boom for social photography. Tintype was the first "instant" photograph, and you had to sit perfectly still for 15 seconds (and wait another 10 minutes to get a print you could show off). With Google Glass, you'll be able to capture and share real-time footage of all the cool things you do on the move, like skydive or trip on the sidewalk.

Kitty Fisher's insight:

Here is a little history on Mobile Photography throughout 2013. What where the trends, I think it's safe to say that Instagram was one of the bigger ones. And by sharing content through Facebook, whether it's about where we are staying or what we may be on the plate in front of us.
